7 Virtues and Benefits of Reciting Surah Mulk

Surah Mulk holds exceptional rewards, benefits and bounties with its recitation. It is among the highly rewarding and powerful Surahs of the Holy Quran with multiple mentions in the hadith.

Protection in the Grave

Surah Mulk is your ultimate source of protection from the punishment of the Grave. Whoever recites it regularly before going to sleep, he will have protection in the grave as mentioned in the hadith of the holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW). It is present in Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2890.
Reciting this surah daily is advised for every Muslim as it guarantees protection from the painful punishment of the grave.

Intercession on the Day of Judgment

Muslims who recite this surah daily must have peace of mind as Surah Mulk will intercede for the reciter on the Day of Judgment. Hazrat Muhmmad (SAWW) said that this surah, consisting of 30 verses, will intercede for a man till he is forgiven by Allah Almighty. This narration is present in Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2891.

A Sunnah Before Sleep

It is a sunnah of our Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) to recite Surah Mulk every night before going to sleep. It is present in Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2892 that the Holy Prophet (SAWW) did not go to sleep without reciting Surah As-Sajdah and Surah Al-Mulk.
You should try to make recitation of this surah a habit before going to sleep as it’s a completion of the sunnah of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW).

This surah mentions that life and death are the creation of Allah Almighty and a test to determine who are the righteous and who are the wrongdoers. Allah’s sovereignty extends beyond this universe to the hereafter. Life and death, both are the creation of Allah Almighty. He is the one who created the seven heavens with absolute perfection and harmony. Therefore, everything that exists is under his kingdom. He is the one who possesses all this. This recognition of Allah’s sovereignty is a perfect example for a human to admit the oneness and power of Allah Almighty.

Surah Mulk offers ease of forgiveness because it will testify for a believer on the day of judgment and protect him from the punishment of the grave. Daily recitation of this surah will offer you both these benefits and infinite virtues here and in the afterlife as well.

Since Surah Mulk consists of only 30 verses, it is not only easy to memorise but also accessible to memorisation because of its rhythmic nature. By just learning one verse a day, you can memorise the whole surah in a month or even less!
